Telangana Fast-Tracks SCCL’s 7,000 MW Green Energy Push with Solar, Wind, and Hydro Projects – EQ
In Short : Telangana Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has directed fast-track clearances for SCCL’s renewable projects, including 800 MW floating solar, 500 MW wind, and 500 MW pumped hydro. He urged swift DPR finalization, inter-departmental coordination, and real-time monitoring. SCCL targets 7,000 MW green capacity, with plans also involving green hydrogen, battery storage, and a solar JV with Rajasthan’s RRVUNL.
In Detail : Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has instructed officials to expedite clearances for the renewable energy projects being developed by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The projects include large-scale solar, wind, and pumped hydro initiatives that are central to the state’s clean energy strategy.
Among the key proposals are an 800 MW floating solar project on reservoirs, a 500 MW wind farm spread across five districts, and a 500 MW pumped storage facility at the Medipalli open-cast mine. The Deputy CM emphasized the importance of timely approvals, particularly from the irrigation department for the floating solar plants planned at Lower Manair and Mallannasagar reservoirs.
He directed officials to ensure that the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the 500 MW wind project are completed by the following month and that immediate steps are taken to begin construction of the pumped storage facility. The instructions reflect the government’s urgency to advance SCCL’s role in the state’s green energy transition.
In addition to renewable energy projects, the Deputy CM reviewed the 1,500 MW solar joint venture between SCCL and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL). He also called for quick cabinet approval for this venture along with an 800 MW thermal power project under discussion.
To improve project oversight, Bhatti proposed setting up a centralized digital dashboard to monitor the progress of all energy initiatives, including green hydrogen and battery storage projects. This would enable real-time tracking and faster decision-making at various administrative levels.
With these measures, SCCL is targeting an overall renewable capacity of around 7,000 MW. Chairman N Balaram noted that the success of these projects is crucial for ensuring SCCL’s long-term sustainability and aligning with the state’s energy diversification goals.
